What is included in the A1 German test course?

Level A1 is the easiest and first level for German beginners without previous knowledge and contains the important basis for all who want to learn German.

Basis of German Grammar

As with any language, German grammar is the important basis for understanding and correctly applying content. For all tasks & use cases on the A1 exam you will need the German grammar.

Be able to carry on light conversations in everyday life

Together we learn to introduce ourselves and other people and to ask and answer appropriate questions. This can be, for example: Giving information about your own place of residence or describing other people you know.

Acquisition of basic vocabulary

You will learn the most important basic vocabulary at level A1:

  • Private environment
  • Professional environment
  • Education
  • Public places

Be able to read simple sentences and understand uncomplicated dialogues

The aim of this topic is that you can read, understand and use everyday expressions & simple sentences. This can be e.g. advertisements, brochures, menus or timetables. At the A1 exam you will receive an invitation and be able to evaluate a statement with "correct" or "incorrect".

 

We will also learn how to communicate in a simple way in everyday conversations with other people and how to understand simple dialogues. These conversations will be practiced in written texts and as spoken conversations. This includes understanding and using dates, days of the week and times.

Write SMS and e-mails in German

For your everyday life, we will teach you how to write German text messages and e-mails correctly for various purposes. We will teach you how to formulate and correctly understand interest, wishes, requests or suggestions.

Which topics are included in the German exam for level A1?

The A1 German language test tests the learners' basic knowledge. In order to reach the A1 level, language schools such as Germancube.ch offer practice-oriented preparatory courses for German beginners with no prior knowledge.

 

On the A1 exam, you will be asked to complete the following sections:

  1. Basic knowledge of the German grammar
  2. Basic vocabulary to understand & carry on light conversations in everyday life.

How does the A1 German TELC exam work?

The TELC Deutsch A1 test consists of a written and an oral part. The written test includes the application areas "Listening" (20min) and "Reading and Writing" (45min).

 

This is followed by the oral exam (15min), where you can show your basic German skills in practical application together with three other participants.

How does the A1 German exam GOETHE work?

Like the TELC A1 German test, the GOETHE German A1 test consists of a written and an oral part. The written test includes the parts "Listening" (20min), "Reading" (25min) and "Writing" (20min).

 

This is followed by the oral exam (15min), in which you introduce yourself to the group and answer questions from everyday life and ask questions in the group.
